In her debut book, Dr. Sabrina N. Williams, IE provides a comprehensive summation of the lessons learned during her yearlong exploration of estate planning, asset protection and the intricacies of the vital estate planning tool referred to as a trust. In Learning to Trust, Dr. Williams shares her personal experiences along with relatable real-life examples to help readers better understand how the lack of a clear plan can lead to disputes among loved ones and diminish the wealth passed down to future generations. Dr. Williams breaks down the complexities of trusts including the various types of trusts, their purposes, and how they can be tailored to meet individual needs. This book is an invaluable resource to equip readers with the knowledge necessary to harness the power of trusts for wealth preservation, tax efficiency, and ensuring the well-being of loved ones.
What Inspired me to vvrite the book?
The idea for Learning to Trust actually elates back to the pandemic. During that time, I saw a lot of people dying and was particularly struck by the nu1nber of
black people that were dying. I began to wonder how many of the people who died had actually made plans for death or as we sometimes say, "had their affairs in order". As a real estate investor, it is common for investors to make their fortunes
off other people's misfortune (generally black people). Knowing that many people likely did not have any type of estate planning clone when they went into the hospital, I started contemplating the amount of wealth their families were likely to lose because of their failure to plan. This led me to start assessing where I was in many life as it related to estate planning. I reached out to a few attorneys and had some initial consultations, but unfortunately, I did not follow through. So although the idea was born during the pandemic, the book was actually birthed as a result of a legal situation I found myself in three years after the pandemic.
What Message Do You Ain1 to Convey to the Readers?
My hope is that this book will start a national conversation within the black community about the importance of prior planning to ensure our assets are properly protected so they can be successfully transferred to our families for generations to come, just like the Rockefellers!
Most rewarding part of releasing the book
For me the most rewarding part about releasing this book is knowing that I have not just written a book but that I have left a mark on this world that will benefit others and outlive me.
